Holiday Gift Guide 2022: For the Cook

Gift Guides

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received was this: Buy things you love that are beautiful and functional for your kitchen. That way, when it’s a mess, it’s a beautiful mess.

I stand by this advice and it has really changed the way I look at and shop for my kitchen. Beautiful doesn’t have to be expensive, but it sure makes a difference when I’ve baked up a storm and left a trail of utensils along the way. We’re sharing some of our go-to gear, and even a few items on our own wish list, that you might find to be perfect for the cooks in your life. Gifting any of these may even result in some yummy home cooked treats in return, but no guarantees!

1. Stasher Reusable Silicone Bags

They’re reusable and microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. Plus, they have a ton of colors and sizes to choose from. Need I say more?

2. Stoneware Prep Bowls

Blue Apron got us started with prep bowls and it’s completely changed our cooking process. We prep everything before we start cooking. That way it’s all in reach and easy to throw the next ingredient into the recipe. Any ‘ol bowls will do, but these are too cute to pass up!

3. Adjustable Rolling Pin

I gifted this to my sister for her birthday and she’s happy to report that it’s come in very handy, especially for pies and cookies! Take the guess work out of rolling dough and let the adjustable rings do the work for you.

4. Material Kitchen Cutting Board

These are definitely on the wish list this year! The colors and simple design are *chefs kiss*. I’m always on the lookout for nice cutting boards and they are shockingly hard to find. These are it, my friend!

5. Stainless Steel Measuring Cups & Spoons

These may look average but they’re a major win in my book for two reasons. One, this set includes a 2-cup measuring cup. Once you have that, you’ll never go back! And two, the narrow measuring spoons fit in smaller jar openings. GASP!

6. Sous Vide

We’ve had our sous vide for a few years now. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had was cooked with this little gadget. We love that we can prep the food, set it and forget it without it overcooking or boiling over.

7. GreenPan 5 Quart Saute Pan

I bought this sauté pan to replace one of ours last year and we have reached for it almost every day since. There are so many pans that are trending right now for design but, while I’m typically a sucker for a beautiful product, I’ve heard mixed reviews on quality. So, until I am proven wrong, this is our go-to pan. I’ll be on the lookout for another few pans in this collection to add to our line up!

8. Silicone Ice Cube Tray

Sure, you can make regular ice cubes, but why not make cool ice cubes? This year we grew herbs and I learned you can freeze herbs in olive oil as cooking cubes. You can even freeze up some dog-friendly snack cubes, fruit cubes to jazz up your beverages or even cookie dough. Are square cookies the new round cookie?

9. Stainless Steel Taco Shell Holders

We have some form of tacos for dinner almost once every week. I typically don’t purchase products this niche, but these have been a game changer for filling shells! I pull these out more than I ever thought I would. They’re dishwasher safe and stack easily for storing in a drawer or cabinet.

10. Butter Maker

Matt bought this five or six years ago and I laughed when it came in the mail. Why do we need a butter maker? Well, I’m the one laughing now because this little contraption is so much fun and so easy to use. We’ve had a blast crafting our own unique butter flavors and, on top of that, it’s an excellent arm workout!

11. Pyrex Glass Tupperware

We’ve replaced all of our plastic food storage with glass over the last few years. Not only do I love that these are eco-friendly, they’re also are microwave, freezer, dishwasher and oven safe!

12. The Food Lab Book

This is one of Matt’s favorite books! If you know someone who’s into the science of cooking, this is an incredible resource. We’ve learned a ton from this book and discovered one of our favorite blogs: Serious Eats. The book’s author, J. Kenji López-Alt, was the former culinary director and is a current culinary consultant for the site!

13. Olive & Linen Turkish Hand Towels

This particular hand towel is one of my favorites. It’s incredibly large, light and absorbent – all great hand/dish towel qualities in my book! I will advise to those shopping this site that not all towel patterns are created equally. Some are more of a soft, less absorbent material, so shop with that in mind!

14. Nesting Marble Trivets

Another beautiful and functional piece we use quite often. When we’re not using it, we store our salt pig in the donut hole – multi-purpose!
