Our Favorite Nostalgic Fall & Halloween Movies & Shows

Lifestyle

I won’t deny it – I absolutely love watching TV and movies. There’s just something magical about getting lost in a story on screen, especially nostalgic ones. As soon as the smell of September hits the air in New England, I’m ready to get cozy, curl up and dive into our list of favorite fall and Halloween movies and shows. There’s no time like the present because you know I’ll be coming in hot with a Christmas movie list and that one might be just a wee bit longer.

1. Hocus Pocus

This is always number one on our list, but even more so this year with Hocus Pocus 2 coming out on September 30!

2. The Addams Family

Nothing beats the original in our opinion. Also, really looking forward to the new show Wednesday on Netflix – the story of Wednesday Addams!

3. Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! This one definitely scared me as a kid, but it’s a must watch now. We love the cast.

4. Halloweentown

This one brings us back! If you’re on a Halloweentown kick keep going with Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge and Halloweentown High.

5. The Haunted Mansion

I mean, it’s hard not to love Eddie Murphy’s expressive acting!

6. Hotel Transylvania

This isn’t super nostalgic having come out in 2012, but I’m a sucker for animated films and this one is too good to leave off the list. The whole series is great!

7. Ghostbusters

I watched this for the first time in full only a few years ago and now I feel like I am finally in the know. I was missing out on a classic!

8. Casper

My favorite part about this movie is that Casper is a friendly ghost. You won’t see us watching any films without friendly ghosts – no siree!

9. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

It’s nearly impossible for me to pick just one from this series. Let’s be real, all of 8 of these films really set the mood for Halloween (Thanksgiving and Christmas, too!) You’ll catch me watching any of these all year round as I am, quite literally, obsessed.

10. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

Short and sweet, but always hard to find!

11. Sabrina the Teenage Witch Movie

Raise your hand if you wanted to have magical powers like Sabrina when you were a kid? Which do you prefer – the movie or the TV series? I can’t decide!

12. Gilmore Girls

Biiiiiig Gilmore Girls fan over here! This is another one that spans several seasons, but it’s a favorite to watch again in the fall. I love throwing this on in the background when I’m cooking or baking.

13. Friends

Friends just warms the heart and makes you laugh. Matt started watching it for the first time with me this year and I’m happy to report his review: “It’s pretty good, I get why people love it so much.” Ha! Maybe it also reminds me of this time of year because Hocus Pocus and Friends both have scenes filmed in front of the same fountain.

14. The Good Witch

This was a recent discovery on Netflix, but I absolutely love it. It’s sweet and wholesome which I’m always a sucker for. That, and a little bit of magic!

15. Bewitched

Oldie but a goodie!
